I have a nice gen ETA 2836-2 GMT gold plated movement that is surplus. It comes with a green rep dial, gold hand set, including GMT hand and is marked 25 jewels Swiss on the rotor. I cannot find the stem and crown that came with it although I'm still looking. It is in good running condition.
This is my first time putting together an ETA 2836-2 GMT (Asia clone) - can link if necessary. I have some questions: From my research, on the dial - I need to only keep the following feet: 12 hour, and 42 minutes. for reference - my dial has 4 feet in total. ETA makes the ETA 2893-2, which is a GMT movement from the Swiss factory. The genuine Rolex GMT hand does fit it. Both are considered on par with genuine Rolex movements.
Here's the clone and ETA before putting the clone back together. Movement is running and being tested. Along with the swap of the parts, the GMT gear and it's detent were lubricated, as were the other GMT gears, the GMT hand now snaps perfectly to it's new position when adjusting it.
If you intend to use your GMT complication regularly, I would strongly suggest getting the a watch based on the ETA 2893 instead, as I don't think any legitimate manufacturer will implement the GMT complication using this hack on the ETA 2836.
